WRITING CLASSES

My birthday is coming up. Yep, 36 seemed ancient just a few short years ago, but here I am about to turn ancient.  So, my wonderful husband has decided to purchase a writing class for me with a real live editor.  This editor has worked at Random House and Penguin and is offering a one-day MFA style course with lots of techniques and feedback.  Should be pretty cool, right?

So why am I so terrified?

Have any of you taken a writing class?  If so, what advice do you have for me and how can I make the most of my time with the instructor?

DISH, please!!

  1. What fun! I love writing classes--I've taken many of them through our local writers' organization.

My advice--write everything down. Often it is so much information that there is no way to even attempt to process it all at the time.

Let us know how it goes!

  2. First off, you think 36 is ancient?. . . wait until you hit 57!

I've attended writing classes inside an author's home with other writers who were much better than me. I survived, eventually got to their level with years of practice. (That's how ancient I am, we did things in person back then--hah!)

Don't sweat it, you will learn a LOT! Take notes, or whatever. Absorb like a sponge, and take with you what you've learned, reject what in your gut you feel doesn't fit for you.

Good luck, enjoy, and Happy Birtday, my pretty.

  3. What a cute pic! I'd be terrified...and excited at the same time. What a great experience you'll have! And...happy birthday, too! I'm stopping by via the Rule Of Three Blogfest. ~ Nadja
