E IS FOR EDWARD

E IS FOR EDWARD ANTHONY MASON CULLEN:

I could not in good conscience do a Memorable Characters Challenge and not have Edward represent the letter E! Whether you are a fan of the actors playing the Twilight roles or not, there is no denying that the character of Edward Cullen is indeed memorable.

In my opinion, what makes Edward so captivating for millions of readers is how tortured he is in the books.  Edward knows who exactly who he is, he's come to grips with the fact that he's a monster.  It's not until he meets Bella Swan that he fears  his own identity.  He loves her and wants to kill her all in the same breath.  What really solidified Edward's character to me was reading the few chapters Stephenie Meyer has posted on her website (www.stepheniemeyer.com) from Midnight Sun.  It's Edward's perspective of the events in Twilight.  The scene where he's trapped in the Biology class with her for the first time is chilling. 

Throughout the series, Edward goes through such emotional distress, almost more than Bella, that he just wants to end his own life and happiness to protect hers.  I'm a romance junkie and that character trait just reeled me in. 

To me, Edward is complex.  He's a thinker, reflector, musician, lover, fighter, murderer, etc... and yet Stephenie Meyer made him likable, genuine, and desirable.  Not an easy task! He's more than the face, the body.  It's what's in his head and heart that made woman swoon!
