G IS FOR GALE HAWTHORNE:

YAY, Hunger Games!  Okay, I LOVE this series. So, I'm so happy to have my first character spotlight for The Hunger Games series.  Gale Hawthorne is a hunter, protector, rebel, and all-around good guy.  He's the type of guy anyone would want their daughter's to date. 

When his father died in a mine explosion, he became the man of the house, taking great care of his mother and siblings.  He made sure they didn't starve or take extra tessrae.  In the first book, Gale's name has been added to the Reaping Ball 42 times.  I just knew he would be called. 

We get a glimpse of Gale's passion and rebelliousness in the first book when he and Katniss talk about the games in the woods.  He offers to run away with her, shouts at the tops of his lungs how awful the Games and the Capitol are for forcing everyone to participate in this travesty. He's right, too, and he's not afraid to say it.
